The last severe thunderstorm to come by my home was quite severe. This lightning bolt hit about a mile away - the thunder that resulted set off car alarms and broke some windows in the area. I'm surprised my lens is still intact.

Lightning shots have something magical, it's hard to explain.
Adnan - I took this shot by exposing each shot for five seconds. Each shot had some lightning bolts - then I shuffled through them and selected the ones which I liked.

I could never photograph lightning. I used to set my camera to have the shutter permanently open on a dark night, then close them as soon as there was a bolt of lightning.
It never worked.
Here's the trick, keep your shutter open - exactly when the lightning hits, close the shutter. You might also want to shoot at f/13 or f/9 to make the image more defined.
