The last severe thunderstorm to come by my home was quite severe. This lightning bolt hit about a mile away - the thunder that resulted set off car alarms and broke some windows in the area. I'm surprised my lens is still intact.

I love how some of the lightning seems to mystically go through a tree

Nice! How did you catch it... long exp during an electrical storm?

Lightning shots have something magical, it's hard to explain.

Adnan - I took this shot by exposing each shot for five seconds. Each shot had some lightning bolts - then I shuffled through them and selected the ones which I liked.

Thanks for checking my site, my blog's title says "snippets of my life and issues of interest"... so occasionally I write about interesting points to ponder that occur in my life. I love writing.. it's the art that I try to perfect like you with your beautiful photography:). "a diary for the world to see" is that a bad thing?

Aisha - I like your idea. "a diary for the world to see." How about "A Diary of the World as I see it." Or even "The World : As I see it."

I like the latter.

Great picture!

I could never photograph lightning. I used to set my camera to have the shutter permanently open on a dark night, then close them as soon as there was a bolt of lightning.

It never worked.

Here's the trick, keep your shutter open - exactly when the lightning hits, close the shutter. You might also want to shoot at f/13 or f/9 to make the image more defined.
