What is this? This grows on my neighbor's tree. It's beautiful when seen with rain on it, ugly when it's dry. I first thought, 'it's a cherry.' Can it be a cherry?

Looks a bit like our native crab apple.
I was just about to say that it looks like a crab apple but I see two others have beaten me to the punch.

Sorry to say, I tested it when I was young. It tasted bitter. That's it.
