A Night at Northwestern (Part II)

The part one post as well as this post are 100% real - with no post processing except for downsizing the image. That's all. They are f/5.0 with an exposure time of 30 seconds.

Beautiful!!!

I like this picture especially.

How exciting?

You can just imagine how excited I am to see this site day after day after day... after day.... Carlos suggested that I take a picture looking outward - more of real life.

A juxtaposition - modern order and the chaos of nature leading to the eventual demise of modern orderliness.

I like the birds demeanor in the picture especially - here's a close-up. I guess a 70mm lens can really take you places.

The angle of attack on this bird is incredible. Out of the images I've taken last week, I really like this one. What do you think?

Funny how everyday I go to lab and want to see this view of the tech building. Not because it's beautiful, but because I know I can have fun now. Ironically, I think there's a man passed out in the middle of the courtyard - could be a struggling student or a photography, nah.

Many can sympathize with this. Seems like everyone puts this message on facebook.com

Long road ahead, full of great shadows.

Further proof Spring is finally on it's way.

This is right outside my lab.

Finally, a day to relax and enjoy my camera. This is the first of many. A CIA agent from the southeast joined me - I think he might be contributing soon.

This singaporian photographer is incredible!

I used to prize these birds everytime I saw them... now here at this locale I see them right outside the dungeon I have to work at. I'll have to kick out the primes to start taking more pictures of these.

I posted the non-post-processed version of this. This is the post-processed version of this. The detail is emphasized. Yes, it was a real tornado. Never thouched down though, which can be a good thing. Right?

Shifting through pictures - I gotta say, this image summarizes my interests - photographically. Sad thing, I sold the darn lens because it had dirt and Nikon Grease Fungus growing in it... and that it was from 1972. I'll buy the cheap chinese version of the f/1.4 50mm lens in the coming days - I'll have to sell some other useless lens of mine (which I will eventually regret). This interest is so regressive!

And we end this binge and winter with this image... farewell... I hope all other winters shall stand in the shadows of this one. It was horrible.

I had the pleasure of talking to a photographer from Singapore today. He's incredible. Here's one of his works he delighted me with.

I'm desperately waiting for these to show up on lawns everywhere! I took this picture when I was starting digital photography with my CP5000 - can't believe I used that camera.

"Dieing to be Noticed."

I'm hoping summertime brings something as beautiful as this....

Not related to photography or art at all... my secondary project for spring break was completed some moments ago. I successfully installed a 36 inch satellite antenna with a motor that locks it onto the geosynchronous arc. What makes something to note is the fact that I lacked complex satellite equipment... so the only tools I had were an analog signal gauge, a calculator and a pair of pliers. After trial and error, some scientific inquiry - the dish locked onto the ark and the rest is history. Fun fun!

Every palace needs incredible light fixtures... this one true beauty is captured with the aid of the SB-800. The flash guesses, but tends to guess correctly. Seems like Nikon actually put some science into it's lighting system this time...

Sunset from my precipice... so beautiful now, summer time will speak of more beauty. What do you think?

You usually see pictures of these close to a lakebed in the summer...

And I can't resist warm tones...

A view from my watchtower...

I love shooting in warm tones, mostly - but today I set the temp to a cooler range. I like what I got.

We've had a long winter - I can't wait until April Showers come to reign in may flowers.

A steet littered with memories in the land of five rivers.

A picture of rural life in the land of five rivers.

My sisters really know how to treat their brother. I have so much equipment that I always have to lug around in an ugly bag around where ever I go. Moreso, I have to carry two bags because of my laptop which is rather small, but the bag negates it being small anyway. So my sisters got me a LowePro Computrekker bag; the bag is spectacular! It has room for almost everything! And best part, it snuggly fits my new Nikon D2 into it! WahoO! Tomorrow's going to be a good trip to the wintery park - will post soon.

Brent - this camera is headed to a new home. I'm sure the new owner will take good care of it. If I was a richer man, I would keep this fine plastic crafted instrument. But I'm a poor student. Help?

A picture of the new born - care of a fellow photographer.

I'm spending my spring break trying my best to learn. I sit on my chair - the light feeds me - makes me feel better considering the lack of sunlight this winter. But overall, I feel like I'm being rushed. Strange. This photo captures the feeling.

Trying my best to reach out...

I was testing out the contrast on the the Nikon D2, it's spectacular at how it can capture the depth of the moment.

Testing....

Now I'm on spring break, I finally have been able to spend sometime on enjoying photography. Moving from my previous camera to the new D2Hs has been - well, challenging. When you use a D70, life is relatively straightforward - now that I have a d2Hs - there are so many more variables to play with. Another thing, I loaded a standard curve into my D70 - that standard curve doesn't work at all in my D2Hs, so I need to do it all over again. How fun?

Expect by late tonight to have another post. :-)

I can't wait until I get to do more night photography with my new system. The sensor can go 3 hours without much noise! Wahoo!

Status...

I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn't photograph them. -Diane Arbus

Very nice quotation provided by Adnan.

The new D2H that I received has been tested and I've run an array of tests on it to check for backfocus problems, metering problems, all the way to firmware issues. All shows the system is 100% - which is comforting to know. I'd love to start shooting right now, but I'm in a bit of a jam right now. Classes here don't seem to be getting any easier; more quizes are mounting day by day. So I'm dedicating the greater portion of my time to studying instead of exploring the world of photography. I will probably back and swinging when I'm on break in three weeks.

Plus, there's on more issue; I have no lens! The body was shipped to my apartment, but my lenses that I use for photography are about 500 or so miles away from me. Shipping them would be pointless since it will cost quite a lot for them to be shipped here. So, I guess the word to remember, patience.

Adnan - in regards to viewfinders, I'm well aware of the better viewfinders out there. Good thing you pointed out that camera to me. I'm considering a camera that isn't medium format - I'll save medium to large format film to when I actually a few pennies in my pockets. Although one of the appealing parts of the D2h is its wonderful viewfinder there are cameras that are cheaper htat have better viewfinders. For example, Minolta Maxxim's from early 1980's to the late 1990's usually have bright, incredibly large viewfinders. Then again, I don't work with the Minolta mount.

Well, that's all for now. Another three weeks - I think I will be able to last.

Interesting choice

As pointed out by Adnan in the comments of my previous post - it's surprising that I choose the D2H over cameras such as the D200 and the D2X. I've researched this camera and competing cameras over the past year and I decided that I must get the D2H over any other cameras; purely for practicality.

I shoot, variously, with the D70; great camera, too many jpeg artifacts, and it feels like a toy; I need a camera that is strong enough to take a bullet. I take pictures like there is no tomorrow; I need a camera that can take upwards of 150,000 actuations per drive motor. I print at the largest 8 by 10; I need a camera that can do that. The list goes on... in each case, the D2H was ahead of the pack in all regards. Sure I could go and get the D2X, but then I would be loosing the fast shutter and fast autofocus system to a few measly pixels - I never print that big anyway so the extra pixel here and there would be lost. D200 - I considered this camera, but the viewfinder isn't as good as the D2H in my opinion; plus, the battery grip is just incredible on the d2h.

I will start posting images from this new system in the days to come. At the current, school is literally taking every second away from my life.... I had bad undergrad semesters, but this is grad school overkill!

A new baby is born. My old camera is going to be released to the auctioning table and my new camera will be coming into my life! WAHOO! Nikon D2Hs!
